Katan checked the instrument panels one last time. It had been too long since he had flown. Not that he was in any danger of crashing, but with things being what they were, he could not afford to take precautions, especially given who they were and the fact that they were flying straight into the lion's den.
The shuttle roared to life and took flight, discreetly popping up from an abandoned, disused service elevator in a condemmed factory and rocketing up towards the upper atmosphere.
The ex-pilot patted his newly rediscovered shotgun protectively and glanced at Alessa, who was trying valiantly to look as though she was not bothered in the least by the prospect of going into space.
"You doing alright over there?" He asked with both concern and a slightly amused tone.
"Of course I'm doing fine." She replied. "Just concentrate on piloting. I'm in full control of myself."
They broke atmosphere not much longer later, and began to cruise towards the rendezvous point. Things were going smoothly when an alarm began to hail and Alessa twitched visibly, quickly reigning in her own alarm.
"It looks like we've got company. No mobile suits, yet, but several ships inbound on unfriendly courses." Katan said calmly. "So, you think we should see what they want and if there's just a misunderstanding or should show them we're not as defenseless as we look?"
He gave Alessa a smirk, one she was giving right back to him.
"Got it. I'll put the throttle down and start evading, if you'll be so kind as to deter them."

Well it probably was a good idea to act calm and see what they wanted. After all what could they do? But they were an unknown ship. An unknown ship without any sort of license. The only logical place they'd end up was in custody. Oh how OZ-R would love to have vigilantes like them in their grasp. So Alessa's only natural reaction was to smirk right back to Katan as she accessed the controls before her and powered up their weaponry.
Alessa was always one for a plan b. And so while the shuttle would scan like any normal shuttle, and looked like any normal shuttle....they would soon realize the contrary. Granted their shuttle wasn't going to be a big match for a mass of mobile suits. But a few oblivious frieghters should be easy to get rid of.
"Weapons are up and engines on standby. I suggest we do the old cripple and run maneuver. As much as I'd hate to leave a witness, we can't take much damage in this thing." She warned Katan in a calm voice. It was exciting to be under fire again.

"Right. Give me as much engine power as you can, then. There's nothing to hide behind out here, so I'm gonna need to be creative when running." The older man replied.
As soon as it was obvious they weren't going to be slowing down, the ships behind them opened fire. Instinct hit Katan as well as a very slight smile as he deftly avoided the weapons fire, and pushed the ancient but faithful shuttle harder and faster than it had ever been meant to move.
"Hang on to something." He said calmly as he suddenly turned one eighty degrees on a pin and shot towards the pursuers, crashing right through the middle of the pack of ships. The less bright ones tried to turn in pursuit, and many crashed into their fellow ships. Then, Katan did an overhead u-turn and shot back on his original course, causing a few more crashes in the process.

Alessa braced herself as Katan decided to flip and roll about with the shuttle. Her hands moved about the control panels. As much as she could applaud him for his flying skill, this poor old ship wasn't meant to move like that. She had to keep things together while he worked to get them through this mess. More importantly she had to keep herself together as well. Stupid space and its lack of directions. Had she been in the pilots seat she would have lost sight of what was up and what was down a long time ago. As long as she kept her mind on the mechanics of the ship she figured that she would be just fine.
She held onto her console a little as the shuttle shook about with the crashes and collisions exploding behind them. "Okay I think we're in the clear for now..."

Katan glanced wistfully at the stars. "It's good to be home again." He mumbled to himself before saying, "Well, that was the most fun I've had in years. How about..."
He then noticed a small flashing light on the console. "That's not good. I think the engine might be about to violently disagree with what I've put it through."

Alessa would have had to agree...it was nice to see action again. But before she could agree with Katan's statement she was already away from her seat and floating towards the back of the shuttle. Just great! This was the last thing they needed. "Just concentrate on flying this junk heap." She growled out to him as she pulled out her tools and let them float about infront of her, putting a slight spin on them so they wouldn't float away.
Pulling a panel free she started to pull wires and reconnect them. They'd need some power if they expected to get to their destination....and if those people really wanted to get them well..they'd be sitting ducks without engine power. Rerouting the minimal gravity to none at all would give them an extra boost, but she had to find something else. Life support? No... Lights? Maybe... That was just going to have to do. Taking a bit of the power devoted to cargo lights just might help enough. "Try that..."

Katan gave a small sigh in relief as the light blinked off. "Well, she'll need an overhaul, but we won't explode. At least, I hope not."
He sighed then. "Sometimes I wonder how we didn't just decide to do the last stand treatment. Being cooped up so long's felt...wrong somehow."

"I think." Alessa spoke up again as she floated down into her seat and belted herself inplace. "We decided that would be suicide. And neither one of us are willing to let OZ win that easily." She sighed a bit and ran her fingers through her hair to get some of it out of her face. "But you're right...we need to get out more." That mischevious smirk returned to her lips as she looked over to him. Yes it seems that old fire was starting to burn again. Perhaps they would find more in those scrap heaps than just parts to get them by....
